Fruit Salad Days
Over the years I have kept a food diary for my son and possible links to meltdowns. This is going to sound a little odd, okay very odd, but every time he ate a fruit salad there would be a meltdown, and I now think this is due to a salicylate sensitivity. Salicylates are naturally occurring chemicals found in high quantities in certain fruits such as strawberries, citrus and others. The fruit salad is a cocktail of different salicylates. My son does eat some fruit, of course (pears are very low in salicylates), but the fruit salad cocktails are avoided! This blog post isn't designed to make you anti-fruit, just aware that even 'healthy' foods can affect behaviour for some people.
